Principal’s June Message

I cannot believe how quickly it has arrived, but soon, I will be flipping my office calendar to June. As I sit here and reflect on the year, I have many things to write about. I wanted to make sure you were aware of some of the exciting events happening in June.  Please be sure to look at our new website and sign up to have notifications of events come right to your phone. Our calendar is there as well for you to sync with your own calendar if you wish.  I have also described some of the June events below:

On Wednesday, June 7, we will be hosting a volunteer social for our many volunteers, as a token of our appreciation. Our social will be from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. in our school library.

On Tuesday, June 20,  I would like to invite you to join us for our closing mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Church. We have had many liturgical celebrations throughout the year, and this one will culminate all the wonderful things we have done this year at St. Agnes School.

On Monday, June 26 at 6:00 p.m., we will be having our graduation celebration at St. Agnes Church. This is an exciting time for our grade 8 graduates and I look forward to presenting them with their graduation certificates for their years of hard work.

On Tuesday, June 27, you will be receiving your child’s second term report card. Please be sure to fill out the parent/guardian section and return this to school as soon as possible after that date.

Friday, June 30 is the last day of school for our students. They will be dismissed at the regular bell time of 3:50 p.m.

As we close for the 2016 – 2017 school year, I have many people to thank:

To all the volunteers who gave so generously of their time, a heartfelt thank you. You make a positive difference in the lives of our students and our learning community. There are many programs that we would not be able to run if it weren’t for you. Our sincerest thank you goes out to you! I would like to especially thank Denise Porter for the amount of time and energy that went into organizing our fantastic Nutrition for Learning program. I am so impressed as every morning, breakfast was served to many of our students who are in the breakfast club. I hope all our volunteers can join us for the Volunteer Appreciation Social.

To our secretary, Mrs. McGlynn – words cannot express how much we are thankful to have you at the entrance of St. Agnes School. You are that friendly face that students turn to first for safety and security and help. Thank you for all you do for our community and thank you for being so organized. Students, parents, staff, and I feel very fortunate to have you at the helm.

To our custodians, Mr. Clayfield and Mr. Howlett- We thank you for the many things you do to keep our school clean and safe for our kids and staff. You are always willing to help out and we thank you! We wish Mr. Howlett luck as he ventures into his role as afternoon custodian at St. Luke School.

To all our council members for the countless hours of volunteer work that you consistently offered throughout the year. I would especially like to once again thank Denise Porter, our council chair, for the numerous hours of planning, organizing and stepping in to help make this school year and the events throughout the year run so smoothly. I consider myself very lucky to be working with such wonderful parents and community members!

To all staff – Where do I begin… you have consistently shown me that you will go above and beyond what is expected of you. I am so proud to work with so many people who always put our students first and foremost on our list of priorities. Our students are very lucky to be working with you each day. This year, we once again, say goodbye to Mr. Clifford. Thank you for your wonderful work this year and we wish you the best wherever you end up teaching. We are also excited to welcome back Mrs. McKinley in September.

To our graduates, sincere congratulations and best wishes as you continue your journey on to high school.  May you continue to grow and exemplify the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations and I really hope you come back to visit.

To the students and everyone in the St. Agnes Community – have a safe, fun-filled and enjoyable summer! I will see you on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 on the first day back to school.

Sincerely,

Gloria Lasovich
