October Newsletter

Hello Parents and Guardians, October, 2017

September seems to have flown by… the students have arrived, ready to learn!

The beginning of school is always exciting and eventful and this year was no different. We welcomed new students and staff to our school at our opening assembly and our theme for September was “Being a Welcoming Friend”. Our students have done a very good job of making new students and staff feel welcome. I am very proud of our students for this. Our students have continued to create friendships and build community – which continues to be an on-going theme at St. Agnes. We also introduced our “Umbrella Project” theme. The idea is that if we have a good sense of well-being (happy brains, happy hearts, feel good physically and socially), then we will do better in school and in life. We all have “umbrellas” that carry the skills we need to weather our storms. Monthly themes will include Empathy, Growth Mindset, Purpose, Kindness, and more. The Umbrella skill that we will focus on for October is EMPATHY. Ask your child(ren) about what this might look like at school, home or in our community. Some stories were shared at our monthly assembly by our students.

LET’S GET FIT!!!! – Our FITNESS FRENZY fundraiser will be starting soon. The actual event will take place on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017. Information will be coming home soon. Please consider donating money to our school and promoting this fundraiser with relatives to help your child(ren) raise money for our school. Money raised will go toward supporting your children’s programs in school. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!! …we are setting a goal of $10,000!

Our school is fortunate to have a church beside us. All our masses will be celebrated at St. Agnes Church. Please check the school calendar to find out the dates or call us at school. You are most welcome to join us in celebrating mass. Our students will be given opportunities to prepare the masses with their teachers and classmates, and to participate in one way or another (altar servers, choir, readings, etc. ) Please visit our website at https://stagnes.wcdsb.ca for information about our school and community. And don’t forget to follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/@stagnesces.

Thanksgiving is my favourite time of the year! The beauty of this season is a precious gift from God. It is a time for family and friends and to reflect on how fortunate we are and how thankful we should be for all that we have. I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! Enjoy time with loved ones and thank God for them!

Sincerely,

Gloria Lasovich

Principal of St. Agnes School
