St. Agnes School Class Update

St. Agnes School Class Update:

Hello parents/guardians,

We continue to grow in population here at St. Agnes, which is great news! As a result, we are adding another Junior classroom. Adding another class will make all our grade one to eight class sizes smaller and more manageable. It also means that we will be adding a third portable to our school yard. After careful planning and following the Ministry of Education guidelines, we want to share with you what the breakdown of our classes will be (as of today). Please know that as always, numbers may change between now and September 4, causing us to adjust our classes accordingly.

Currently, we have 3 large JK/SK classes (this may become four classes in September if more students register and will result in adding a fourth portable), 2 grade one classes, 2 grade two classes, a straight grade three class, a grade three/four combined class, a straight grade 4 class, a straight grade five class, a five/six combined class, a straight grade seven class, and 2 grade seven/eight combined classes …bringing our total to 15 classes.

Each new school year is a tremendous opportunity for students to meet new friends and expand their circle of acquaintances. Our goal is to place our students where they will achieve the most success academically while trying to balance their social development. A balanced class reflects the diversity and needs of our school community and all of our students.

A great deal of thought and reflection goes into the placement of each child. Many factors are considered in student placement including: academic abilities, social groupings, and gender ratio. In addition, we consult Board and Ministry of Education guidelines.

The teachers and administration take great care to ensure, to the best of our ability, that all students’ needs are met.

We hope that you have a very enjoyable and relaxing summer. Enjoy time with family and friends!

See you on Tuesday, September 4.

The St. Agnes Staff

June Principal Message

June is a time of reflection. As we look back on our school year, we pause to express gratitude for the many memories created. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, our staff, our parents, and the St. Agnes parish, for making St. Agnes School the wonderful school community it is. Together, we have framed a supportive environment where all students embody our theme of being “the small school with the BIG heart”

This year, we sadly say goodbye to Mrs. Monahan, who will be moving to Our Lady of Lourdes School. We also wish Mr. Clayfield a happy retirement. We thank Julie Goy, Niamh O’Sullivan, and Stephanie Kujtan for their time with us this year and we say goodbye to Teresa Wheeler, our lunch hour supervisor.

I would also like to take an opportunity to thank our St. Agnes School Council.  Your year long commitment to the betterment of St. Agnes School is very much appreciated. Once again, our School Council has had a very busy year providing support to our students. Our active parent group has created subcommittees that work outside of our scheduled meetings. Through the St. Agnes School Council fundraising efforts, purchases were made in each division to enhance programming for our students. Sub-committees worked hard to organize events like Angel Day, Feast Day, Pancake Day, and more. The funds from our minor fundraiser helped to support our greening initiatives which are underway. Our school council is ALWAYS looking for more parent involvement in terms of council as well as on the sub-committees. Please be sure to sign up at our Welcome BBQ on Sept. 18.

Please pause and take some time to express your gratitude to those surrounding you. On behalf of the entire St. Agnes School staff, we wish all our families many special summer moments spent together. Have a safe and restful summer!

May God’s grace be with you all.

Respectfully Yours,

Gloria Lasovich
