It is true we missed out on a number of events this year due to COVID-19 and there is no denying this is disappointing. However, we saw this as an opportunity to be creative, and in some cases, we were able to celebrate in new, more profound ways. Our Grade 8 Graduation celebration is one such example. We are so proud of our Class of 2020 and thrilled we were able to celebrate with each student face to face. This was a graduation ceremony we will never forget! We wish all our Grade 8 graduates the very best as they transition to high school next year.

I would like to take an opportunity to thank our St. Agnes Catholic School Advisory Council.  Your year long commitment to the betterment of St. Agnes CES is very much appreciated. Once again, CSAC had a very busy year providing support to our students. Rest assured, a number of our plans have been placed on “pause”, rather than cancelled, due to COVID-19; we plan to resume these school wide initiatives when it is safe to do so in 2020-21.

As we wrap up this school year, we bid farewell to a number of members in our St. Agnes community. To the students who are moving on to new schools in 2020-21, we wish you all the best as you meet new friends and make great memories. Mrs. Keller, Ms. Gardner, Mrs. Hawley, Mr. Clubb, and Mr. Wahab have all finished their assignments with us at St. Agnes. We thank them for their commitment and contributions to our school. We know they will be a wonderful addition to the communities they join next year.

Mrs. McPhie, Mrs. Huber, Mrs. Gasior, Mrs. Shaqou, Mrs. Bissessar, Mrs. Deneau, and Mrs. Colacrai will be moving to new school communities and we wish them well. They have been a blessing to St. Agnes CES. Finally, Mrs. MacDonald, who taught Junior music with us this past year, will be retiring.  Congratulations on a wonderful career and God bless you in the years to come. We wish all these staff members much health and happiness in their new adventures.

Please stay tuned to further NewsWire communications where we will welcome our new staff members for the 2020-21 school year.

To all members of our St. Agnes community: have a wonderful summer filled with good health, laughter, smiles, and memories to last a lifetime.

God Bless!

Tonya Reesor

Principal

Congratulations to our Grade 8 Graduates!

On Monday, June 22nd, we celebrated an outstanding group of young people: our Class of 2020! This group of grade 8 students had a year like no other group before them. They have contributed so much to the St. Agnes community during their time here. While their graduation was different from year’s past we hope it was memorable and meaningful. We wish them all the best in high school next year!

June Report Card pick up & leftover student belongings

Student report cards will be available for pick up on Thursday June 25th from 8:30am to 12:30pm at the school.

Report cards are organized in alphabetical order by family, so you will receive one envelope for all students within your family. A table will be set up outside, in front of the main office, and Mrs. McGlynn will be there to hand the envelope to the designated parent or student that is picking up the reports, making this a very quick process.

Any report card packages not picked up will be mailed to your home address.

Leftover Student Belongings

If you have not picked up your child’s belongings yet you can do so during report card pick up. Any leftover items will be discarded. We are not keeping items from student desks as lost and found.

Online Registration is OPEN!!

We are always accepting new student registrations at St. Agnes. If you know of a student, or family of students, who are hoping to register at St. Agnes for September 2020 please encourage them to register online now. Protocol for Retrieval of Student Belongings

Protocol for student belongings

Thank you to all our families for your patience as we have waited for permission to access our buildings, and the protocol for the safe distribution of student belongings. We know this has been a very trying time and a long process. However, the safety and well-being of all our families, students, and staff is a priority.

If there are any concerns or questions with respect to this protocol please contact our principal, Mrs. Reesor, directly via email tonya.reesor@wcdsb.ca

Protocol for student belongings

June update

Retrieving Personal Items from school

The past 3 months have been incredibly trying for all of us. Your patience during the COVID shutdown has been greatly appreciated. We are currently working on a plan to distribute students’ personal belongings while abiding by the guidelines recently set out for our school board by Public Health.

Please keep Wednesday June 17th and Thursday June 18th available to retrieve your child’s belongings. Families will be booking a 10 minute appointment. This time frame will allow for the retrieval of belongings regardless of the number of students in a family. We will communicate to all members of our community the specific details of the protocol to allow for the safe distribution of personal items in a separate communication.

Healthy Schools

We have fantastic news to share! Our Healthy Schools team, led by Mrs. McLeod, has earned its first OPHEA Healthy Schools certification…GOLD!!! This year, we added a number of new student focussed leadership opportunities to the existing activities at St. Agnes. Our focus on mental wellness has served all our students and staff well. Thank you to our Healthy Schools student leaders for the work you did all year long; we are very grateful for your leadership and dedication. We look forward to continuing this important work in the next school year.

Joyful June calendar

We hope you are enjoying the daily reminders and check ins that are built into our School Website calendar. These daily prompts come to you from actionforhappieness.org You are able to download, print, or subscribe to these calendars for your own personal reference. Taking a few minutes a day to practice happiness, gratitude, and mindfulness can make a world of difference. Please be sure to reference these daily practices with your children.

Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectation

The focus for the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectation for the month of June is “I am a lifelong learner!” Teachers are encouraging students to share some of their new learning and skills developed during distance learning. We know that some friends have learned to tie their shoes, ride a bike, swim, etc. We are looking forward to seeing pictures and videos of these milestones so please send these in to your teacher!

Vice Principal news!

Our school community continues to grow and we are excited to welcome our newest Flames in the fall. In addition to meeting all our new students, we will be welcoming a Vice Principal: Mrs. Amanda Kuntz. We are really looking forward to introducing her to our fantastic school community. Stay tuned for more updates.

Student Registrations & Departures for 2020-21

If you know of any new families who are planning to join the St. Agnes community please encourage them to register online. New students can be registered even though schools are closed until the fall. It is really important that new students register PRIOR to the beginning of the school year in September.

Online registration for all new students can be found by visiting our school website stagnes.wcdsb.ca

If your child is NOT returning to St. Agnes for any reason (other than graduation from grade 8) please inform Mrs. McGlynn as soon as possible via email sherry.mcglynn@wcdsb.ca . This information is very important to us from a planning perspective. Your timely response is very much appreciated.
